The Red Queen costume stems from the popular movie “Alice in Wonderland” and was actually more accurately depicted in “Through the Looking-Glass” by Lewis Carroll. Through the Looking Glass is a sequel to “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” which features Alice as the little girl we saw in Wonderland, however this time she enters another world through a mirror, or the “looking glass”.

Once Alice enters the looking glass she is in a chess board like world where she meets the evil queen who is dressed in red. She has the ability to move at incredible speeds and distances in a superhuman way. This is making reference to the queen’s ability in a chess game to move an unlimited amount of spaces in any direction. It is at this time she tells Alice that she will make her a queen as well if she can move from her current position (she is a pawn) to the eight square position accross the land and then begins Alice’s journey.

As the story unfolds Alice soon finds out that most all of the trouble in the land of the looking glass is caused by the lady in the queen and she looks for a way to stop it.

The Red Queen is often mistaken for the Queen of Hearts that is in the Alice in Wonderland movie and is the more popular of the two characters.

Red Queen Costume – The Changes of Halloween

If you’re over the age of twenty then you’ve probably noticed that Halloween has changed dramatically over the years. It used to be that you only dressed up as ghosts and goblins and it was reserved for children to go from door to door asking for candy.
